La(OAc)3 has been used as an efficient catalytic system for the synthesis of quinoxalines. This method provides several advantages over methods that are currently employed such as a simple work-up, mild reaction conditions, good to excellent yields, and a process to recover and reuse the catalyst for five cycles with consistent activity.

We report herein the microwave assisted synthesis, without solvents and catalysts, of 6-substituted quinoxalines and 7-substituted pyrido[2,3b]pyrazines. An efficient iodine-mediated oxidative annulation of aryl acetylenes-arylethenes-aromatic ketones with 1,2-diamines for the synthesis of pyrazines and regioselective synthesis of quinoxalines is presented. A multipathway coupled domino approach has been developed for the one-pot synthesis of 1,4-diazines with high functional group compatibility.
